    Există două tipuri principale de contracte de muncă: un contract de muncă pe perioadă nedeterminată (contratto a tempo indeterminato) și un contract de muncă pe durată determinată (contratto a termine and contratto a tempo determinate). Ambele tipuri de contracte se află sub controlul regulilor generale stabilite prin Codul Civil Italian. Contractele de muncă pe perioadă nedeterminată - Acest tip de contract se utilizează pentru relațiile de muncă "normale" din Italia. În acest tip de contract nu se stabilește o anumită perioadă de timp de lucru și garantează angajaților o siguranță mai mare decât orice alt tip de contract în Italia. Contractul pe perioadă determinată - Scopul acestui tip de contract este de a angaja persoane pentru anumite perioade limitate de timp.
